I was working at a travel service at the time, hanging fliers in coffee shops and restaurants in the East Village. So I added this poster to the round. I'd go out as often as twice a week. This is the first flier in the East Village to advertise only a URL. Take me up on that! The polaroid shot is actually part of the very first World of Awe website. It offers a short tour of the East Village. You can see the flier hanging on the right hand, creating a loop between the physical and virtual. The coffee shop in the background is not there anymore.
"On this block (Ave. A between 7th & St. Marks Place) between the years 1855 and 1955, William S. Burroughs and Franz Kafka were chased by roaches they raised in their kitchens. The authors begged for mercy but the roaches voted to exile them from the neighborhood. This event resulted in their monumental literary work."
